About us:

Caesar Families Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to demanding truth, justice, and restitution for the victims of torture and forced disappearance in Syria and supporting the families of victims who were tortured and imprisoned in Syrian regime detention centers and who have appeared in Caesar photos.

Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Professional Writer to collaborate on a meaningful project aimed at empowering women who have suffered immense personal loss and trauma. This project focuses on helping women whose loved ones died under torture in Syrian regime detention centers and whose photos appeared in the Caesar files, as well as women who survived detention and torture in these centers. The goal is to assist these courageous women in sharing their stories with the world, in a way that reflects their experiences, voices, and perspectives. It also reflects the social and economic challenges that women face in various aspects of their lives, including education issues.

Key responsibilities:

  • Story Development: Work closely with survivors and families of victims, alongside a psychosocial support therapist, to help them articulate their stories. Assist in brainstorming sessions to ensure that each woman’s narrative is conveyed authentically and respectfully.
  • Content Creation: Write, edit, and refine personal stories for publication on social media platforms, ensuring that the narratives are compelling, clear, and true to the voices of the women telling them.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with a psychosocial support therapist to provide a safe and supportive environment for the women as they recount their experiences. Ensure that the writing process is sensitive to their emotional needs and boundaries.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Maintain a deep understanding of the cultural, social, and political context of the Syrian conflict, particularly regarding the experiences of women under the Syrian regime. Approach each story with the utmost respect and sensitivity.
  • Publication Strategy: Work with the team to develop strategies for sharing these stories on social media, ensuring that the content reaches a broad audience while maintaining the privacy and dignity of the women involved.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience writing stories for advocacy purposes, particularly in contexts involving sensitive subjects such as trauma, human rights, or social justice. Experience in journalism, creative writing, or content creation is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Ability to convey complex emotions and narratives in a clear, empathetic, and engaging manner. Strong written Arabic language is required. English proficiency is a plus.
  • Cultural Competence: A deep understanding of the Syrian conflict and its impact on women. Familiarity with the Caesar photos and the stories of torture survivors is a plus.
  • Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of the individuals involved, ensuring that their stories are shared with their consent and in a way they feel comfortable with.
